The English Hub at Ukhanyo Primary School has had another busy term. The educators at the Hub continued to work with the Grade 2 and 3 teachers and their classes during the school day so that the teachers could integrate the techniques used in the hub into the classroom. The teachers have been thrilled to hear some of the songs taught to the learners echoing across the school in the mornings as this shows that the lessons are taken to heart.
Extra mural clubs
Once again, extra mural clubs are also offered to the learners in the afternoons. The most popular club remains the Grade 7 Library Club, followed by the Grade 4 English Games Club. The smaller Grade 5 Art Club still has many of the same faithful members that the club started with at the beginning of 2018!
The educators at the Hub were approached by the school to hold their very first Spelling Bee, which was great fun! Well done to Owen Daweti and Livingstone Makhunga for coming first and second. They will be going on to the inter-school contest at Zwaanswyk in July. The winning word was “claustrophobia”!
Donations and Support
We would also like to thank Chantal Benade from Bay Primary School for all the book donations this term and to Celeste Helm, who volunteered her time to help with the Grade 4 English Games afternoon sessions. We are also very grateful to Anita Bath who not only continues to bring us wonderful resources from Reddam House Constantia, but also provides us with very practical educational advice and support.
We also could not continue our work without the support of donors who give so generously towards our programmes. It costs more than R400 000 to run this programme, which reaches over 500 children at Ukhanyo Primary each year. Thank you to those who help us make this possible, we could not have done it without you.
